Nasi Dagang Kak Pah, Kuala Terengganu

Nasi Dagang is a plain and slightly glutinous rise dish usually taken as breakfast. Named 'Dagang' (stranger/loner) after a single tuna curry accompanying the rice',

Nasi dagang is available in stalls and hotel's coffee house. Because of difficult cooking process, most hotels took their supply from the stalls too, so taste is rather 'standardised' with the price four times higher.

The good one is available at Kak Pah in Medan Selera Batu Buruk.

Keropok Losong, Kuala Terengganu

The easiest way to describe Keropok Lekor is to call it fish sausage. The sausages are thrown into boiling water for a few minutes until they are cooked and ready to be sold. It is the specialty from Terengganu, a state at the east coast and omnipresent in the streets and villages and very much a part of the live of the people there.

Keropok lekor has been placed as important product by the Terengganu State Government. Visitors can easily find the keropok lekor factory or stall at Losong (one of the most popular place to purchase keropok lekor in Kuala Terengganu) by following the roadsign.

Kuala Kemaman Satar and Otak-Otak

What is Satar? It is made out of fish, grated coconut, santan and a bit of sago. It comes wrapped in coconut leaves, after being stuck on long spits and smoked on hot embers.

Otak otak had a small slice of fish, thickly coated with spices, mince shallots, onions, ginger, chillies and wrapped in banana leaves..

To get to Kuala Kemaman, if you are coming from Kuantan/Cherating, drive towards Kuala Terengganu/Chukai. You will see Kuala Kemaman's sign board (approximately 10 mins after driving pass Club Med) on your right (there's a bus station at the corner). Turn in, you will see the satar stall on your left (first stall, opens frm 2 pm onwards). If you drive further down, at T junction, turn left. Drive for about 5 mins, you'll see the shop (the picture i took, opens from 2 pm onwards) on your right, that serves satar, otak otak, pais, keropok lekor etc.

Mee Banjir Udang (Special Prawn Noodle) – Kuala Sepetang, Taiping

Probably they name it mee banjir because of the overflowing soup of the bowl of noodles. The noodle comes in three sizes, i.e. RM8, RM10 and RM12. The differences are in the sizes of the prawns.

Kuala Sepetang is the river mouth which is also a fishing village. That’s why the prawns are all so fresh and cheap.
